Exploring the artistic surrounding of public infrastructure

“Invisible Space v.s. Visualize Artistry”

Generally, we see sewage treatment plant as a non-welcome infrastructure with a strong image of polluting surrounding neighbourhood. However, Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant has instead of being an environmental killing infrastructure in the neighbourhood, it overturned into a modernized and unique architecture with its sewage treatment facilities underground. Moveover, the Plant also provides residents with a sports field of 4.6 hectare and an indoor swimming pool, which enhances public an opportunity for exercising and having a healthier life. In addition, the public art project for Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant particularly strengthened interaction and cooperation among community residents, in an attempt to alter the old impression of sewage treatment plant. Through this public art project, we hope to vivid the local historical memories and retrospect of space as well as the yearning for returning to the nature and water. At the same time, art should become the new media of life in the community.
